This is a really nice poster, but again, hard to read while driving...
The most common name for the area prior to forming the town was "West Dedham" or the Clapboardtrees Parish. As the town was officially formed, the original name suggested was "Nahatan," however this was considered too similar to Nahant, so constable Isaac Carter proposed "Westwood" instead, and the town was officially formed on April 2, 1897.

I agree with Dave's recent comments on the many helpful but virtually un-readable signboards Westwood provides us with on many of their traffic islands. I hope to install a better way for organizations and committees to communicate with residents. Here are some potential ideas:
