Public Forum to Consider Housing Issues in Westwood Plan

by Dave Atkins

press release from the Planning Board...

The second of two public forums on Westwood Housing issues will be held on Thursday, December 16 at 7:30 pm in the Champagne meeting room at 50 Carby Street, under the joint auspices of the Planning Board, Council on Aging and Housing Partnership/Fair Housing Committee. The first session was held on November 29 and led to a lively discussion of housing issues in Westwood from a broad perspective. The second housing forum will continue that conversation, but will also begin to focus upon specific strategies and proposals. These will include the Planning Board’s initiatives on Open Space Residential Development (and the housing types and densities allowed in cluster projects), and a reworking of the Senior Residential Development provisions to make them more effective and likely to be used, while remaining acceptable to the community.

The Planning Board welcomes the thoughts of the participants on these and all housing-related needs and strategies. The whole effort on Housing is one element of the project launched this fall to update Westwood’s Comprehensive Plan from 2000. The Plan update covers the widest spectrum of town issues and will result in a new vision for The Westwood We Want. Planning Board Chair Steve Rafsky and Secretary Jack Wiggin are leading the Board’s long range planning efforts.
