Only three licenses? I smell more controversy.

Dave, Article 1 proposes only three beer and wine licenses yet you mention that there are at least four plausible applicants -- Roche Bros., the High Street Market, Lamberts and Wegmans. Somebody's going to be disappointed.

Article 1 would not be for Wegmans

The home rule petition currently in play in the legislature would allow 1 license for Wegmans. Article 1 at town meeting would allow 3 additional licenses for food stores of > 1000 square feet. High Street Market is about 1400 square feet; not sure about Lamberts. No license for Westwood Convenience and specifically none for the gas station mini-mart.

Wegman's License

Since Canton is now holding up the vote on the Wegman's license and formal sessions of the State Legislature do not resume until January is there any alternative to getting a license by home rule petition? Although it sounds like there will be some sort of negotiated settlement with Canton it is frustrating to think that yet another town meeting might take place with no tangible results. Who will be next after Canton?
