Get Ready for Town Election

Four candidates have already taken out papers to run for two open seats on the School Committee, and voters will select 3 members to the Planning Board at the annual Town Election on Tuesday, April 27, 2010. Nomination papers containing 50 signatures of registered Westwood voters (60 recommended) are due back in the Town Clerk’s office no later than the close of business on Tuesday, March 9, 2010.

According to the Town Election Preview posted by Town Clerk Dottie Powers (running for re-election), this year's election will include:

two separate items will appear on the ballot because 2 positions are expiring normally, but the postion John J. Wiggin was appointed to in 2009 expires in 2011, so the person elected to that position will serve out the remainder of the existing term. The Planning Board conducts Comprehensive Planning, Subdivision Control and Zoning Bylaw and Zoning Map review, develops and implements land use development and growth management regulations, and conducts environmental impact and design review/site plan reviews and issues special permits.

Town Clerk 3 years Dorothy A. Powers Dorothy A. Powers The Town Clerk's Office is responsbile for administering the Town Election and assists residents in obtaining a wide range of services in the town including business registration, marriage licenses, and other vital records.
Sewer Commissioner 3 years      
Assessor 3 years   Michael Krone The Board of Assessors determines the valuation of real property and processes abatements/exemptions.
Library Trustee 3 years, 2 positions   Karen Coffey  
Housing Authority 5 years Jerrold B. Wolfe Jerrold B. Wolfe The Housing Authority works to provide affordable housing in Westwood through association with a separate, non-profit, Westwood Affordable Housing Associates, Inc.
