Future of Westwood
A little over two years ago, I posted an article about the Town's comprehensive plan and how I felt more should be done to build on ideas for connecting the town villages. That was part of my motivation for starting a Pedestrian and Bicycle Advisory Committee--to promote walking and biking as ways to increase the connectedness of the town and get more people out of their cars and into the streets.
I saw in the town newsletter that the town is conducting a visioning workshop on Saturday, October 2, 2010 to begin the process of developing an updated master plan. I can't attend, but hopefully this will be an ongoing process.
Understanding common values, goals, and objectives is a necessary starting point, but what's next? Would people like to see Westwood develop a town square of some sort? What prevents businesses from growing and succeeding in town? Is growth itself desirable?

Meeting Today - Did Anyone go
and can they provide a summary. I would love to know the turnout and what was discussed. It was a really hard time for anyone in town sports. But hopefully the turnout was great and a lot got accomplished.
online would be better
The in-person meeting is one way to gather input from a few people, but I really think community planning should be done in an open and transparent manner by having the discussion online. Years ago, I blogged about this on DaveWrites, but I don't sense any great desire in Westwood to pursue this.
a modest turnout
There were about 30-35 residents that turned out for the brainstorming session. My understanding is that this was a first step in a long process. The results of the session should appear on the town website although I'm not sure when that might be.
